City of Toronto Sport Fields Update

In 2012 Parks issued 64,000 sports field permits on 676 fields from the sports of soccer, baseball, slo-pitch, gaelic football, frisbee golf, rugby, football and cricket. Since November 2012, the Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division has been working diligently alongside the Toronto Sports Council and many local sports organizations towards implementing a plan for sports field improvements for the 2013 field sports season.

Parks’ staff would like to thank the 47 permit groups who completed their field audits for 104 sport fields received. These audits will assist PFR staff in setting priorities for repairs and maintenance based on the feedback received. Post season audits are now completed as of Sept 20 by permit holders who have measured the progress achieved with some tremendous results!

Thanks to the following Committees (SORG, Permit Fees Group, Maintenance Group) and many local sport groups and PFR staff for their efforts thus far. It is making a huge difference in the overall facility standards of City sport fields.

Some breaking news, PFR is now putting together a capital sports facility working group to coordinate future capital sport developments in the City. The terms of reference will be developed at the next SORG Meeting (Sport Organization Reference Group) in Oct. If you are interested in the quality of City sports fields and want to make a volunteer contribution to the future please send an      email to; info@torontosportscouncil.ca
