SPORT4ONTARIO will host the 2015 Sport4All Sport and Diversity Summit at the 519 Community Centre.

SPORT4ALL Diversity in Sport Update

On Saturday May 25, 2013 over sixty five people attended the Sport4all Summit hosted by SPORT4ONTARIO in partnership with the Toronto Sports Council. Approximately forty GTA organizations attended the newly renovated Edithvale Community Centre.

Nikesh Amit from the Peel Newcomer Strategy Group provided the keynote address focusing on a message ‘that sport facilitates social cohesion, which transcends many of the community barriers experienced by newcomers to our City and Country’.

A ‘cultural outreach promising practice’ panel discussion occurred with presentations from City of Toronto, Motivate Canada, TO Community Housing, Mississauga Youth Games and Ontario Soccer Association. It focused on descriptions of local programs, their community outreach and key lessons for future adopters.

Two roundtable discussions occurred: The first discussion identified barriers to participation. The second discussion focused on ‘taking action on inclusion’, which concluded with a personal pledge to facilitate future activities from groups.

The Summit concluded with a commitment from SPORT4ONTARIO to develop a summary and action plan for circulation in 6-8 weeks, so stay tuned for this information soon.
