Toronto Sports Council Awarded Trillium Grant

June 26th, 2008 - Toronto, ON

The Toronto Sports Council has received a five year grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to increase the Toronto Sports Council's capacity to promote the interests of community sport, and increase participation opportunities in sport for all citizens in Toronto.

The Trillium funding will enable the TSC to hire a Community Development Officer, who will be responsible for increasing the membership base and developing membership services to assist in strengthening the development of programming for all Toronto sport organizations. This development will include volunteer recruitment, screening and retention; fund raising, marketing and communications. The Trillium funding will also enable the continued development of a website to promote sport clubs to the community and to act as a resource base for clubs, the provision of workshops and other education opportunities.

"We will promote all Toronto sport organizations, and help them reach their goals for effectiveness, and excellence", said Chair Karen Pitre. "We will be working in close consultation with our sport groups, the City of Toronto, the school boards and other stakeholders, to help Toronto sport groups work together to build a strong sport infrastructure and participation continuum for the people of Toronto". As part of an ongoing process to ensure communication with members, the Toronto Sports Council will be hosting a series of TSC Branch meetings in November. Please see the EVENTS section on the website to register for one of the Branch meetings.

All Canadian resident children should be taught how to swim, in support of fitness, safety, and recreation.

True Sport

The TSC was successful with a grant application submitted to True Sport. The TSC was awarded $15,000 to help increase the number of trained and certified youth sport leaders in the Jane Finch communities.
