About the TSC

The Toronto Sports Council (TSC) is a not-for-profit organization that represents the large spectrum sports players in Toronto.

The TSC is a legacy of Toronto's 2008 Olympic Bid and is recognized as the City's "Voice for Sport" by Toronto City Council.

The TSC facilitates the development of long-term strategies that build healthier communities through sport.

GWN Dragon Boat Challenge

Date: September 11th/12th, 2010
Location: Marilyn Bell Park, Toronto, Ontario - Western Beaches Watercourse

This world class venue has recently been host to a number of elite dragon boat events, including the 2006 World Club Crew Championships, 2007 Central Region Race Off: World Championship Qualifier, and the 2008 Canadian National Championships.

 

5K Your Way Walk/Run

Date: Sunday, October 17, 2010
Time: 8:00am

Organized in association with the GoodLife Fitness Toronto Marathon. You can fundraise for any area in the Princess Margaret Hospital such as a research area, a clinic, a program or a special project.  There is no fundraising minimum.

The TSC North York Branch presents a Fall Sport Funding Workshop Saturday November 13, 2010 between 9am and 4pm. This "must go" workshop is specifically geared towards non-profit sport and recreation groups.

Chevrolet Club Coaching Grants

Coaches play a critical role in the experience of young athletes and this national funding initiative will strengthen their impact and contribute to the success of sport clubs throughout the country.

One hundred grants of $2,000 each will be awarded each year to allow sport clubs/local sport associations to host coach training and education activities in support of community sport programs. There will be two application deadlines annually: February and September. There will be up to 50 grants for each application wave.

Target Audience: Club coaches and their young aspiring Canadian athletes.

Eligibility: This grant is open to sport-specific clubs, local sport associations, and/or leagues, operating at the community level and directing the majority of their programs towards children and youth (e.g. minor hockey associations, alpine ski clubs, soccer clubs, etc.).

11 grants made to improve the lives of Torontonians with disabilities

- Grants made possible by the James Rutley Grand Memorial Fund established at the Toronto Community Foundation.

Eleven charitable organizations improving the lives of people with physical disabilities across Toronto will receive up to $15,000 in support of their work. Grants are made possible by the James Rutley Grand Memorial Fund established at the Toronto Community Foundation.

A well-known philanthropist, James Rutley Grand was the grandson of Grand & Toy co-founder, James Grand, and though afflicted with polio as an adult, he lived a full life as a successful businessman and devoted community leader. Women in Coaching National Coaching Institute Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded annually to women coaches who attend one of seven National Coaching Institutes located across Canada. Women coaches are eligible for a scholarship if they meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian citizen or landed immigrant currently coaching Canadian athletes,
  • NCCP Level 3 certified,
  • Have been accepted into the full-time or part-time diploma program at one of the seven National Coaching Institutes across Canada

Professional Development Grants(up to $2,000 each)

The purpose of the Professional Development Grants is to assist women who are interested in a career in coaching by providing an opportunity to upgrade their education. A grant allows the coach to participate in coaching seminars or conferences, attend major competitions, or consult with a recognized sport expert. A grant may also be used in combination with support from other cost-sharing partners to help coaches broaden the scope of their learning options.

To be eligible, the coach must be certified at Level 3 of the National Coaching Certification Program and be an approved Level 4/5 candidate. Read more...
